Measuring wound size reduction for octenidine gel vs. povidone-iodine dressing

80 diabetic patients received one of the 2 treatments for their foot ulcers for 14 days. Wound healing was assessed by calculating the mean percentage reduction in ulcer area. Octenidine wound gel showed a superior mean reduction of 25.5%, while povidone-iodine dressing showed a reduction of 14.5%.

Octenidine has been known as an antiseptic for the past 20 years; however, few clinical studies have evaluated its advantages. In this study, both groups received treatment once daily, and wound sizes were measured on days 0, 7, and 14.
