Measuring wound size reduction with octenidine vs. povidone-iodine dressings

80 diabetic patients received one of 2 treatments for their foot ulcers for 14 days. Wound healing was assessed by calculating the mean percentage reduction in ulcer area. Octenidine wound gel showed a superior mean reduction of 25.5%, while povidone-iodine dressing showed a reduction of 14.5%.

Octenidine is an antiseptic known for the past 20 years. Very few clinical studies have been done in evaluating the advantages of octenidine. Specific characters of no anti microbial resistance, good host tissue tolerability and very few clinical studies made us to conduct this study.
